Construction –Multi Skilled Tutor/Assessor

General Information

 

Line Manager: Centre Manager

 

Type of Appointment: Permanent, 37.5-hour term time only or full time to be discussed

 

DBS disclosure level: Enhanced

 

Job Outline and Purpose

  • To deliver engaging and effective teaching sessions to groups of students

  • To compile and assess occupational qualifications

  • Ensure excellent student attendance, retention and achievement

 

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Training

  • To deliver engaging, effective and innovative group training sessions to students, this includes young people from the ages of 14-19 and adults with special educational needs up to the age of 24

  • To plan and facilitate engaging schemes of work

  • To deliver inspiring teaching and training using a variety of differentiated teaching methods that meets criteria and standards for the level of qualification and ability of student

  • Teaching duties include the appropriate preparation of learning materials, the preparation and maintenance of student and course records, the assessment of students and their work

  • To contribute to the delivery of embedded functional skills for students within the area

  • To manager students and their individual learning plans, closely monitor and review progress

 

Assessment

  • To conduct & use initial assessment effectively and set students appropriate, but challenging, targets and goals

  • To assess students’ work using a variety of assessment methods and provide regular supportive, developmental feedback

  • To conduct and document meaning reviews of students and their progress

 

Attendance/Retention

  • Ensure that students attendance and retention targets are met

 

Targets

  • To achieve targets to meet contractual obligations

 

Construction Trading

  • Open the Construction Area when required

  • Manage and adapt to sudden changes throughout the day

  • Handle cash and other tenders of payment

  • Sell and up-sell construction services

  • Assist in controlling spending costs by periodically researching all regular overhead items and new needs. This especially applies to all supply types and may include shopping for such items

  • Perform light administrative duties accurately and in a timely manner

  • Assist in reducing waste

  • Manage construction area cleanliness

  • Assist with special events

  • Create operating procedures for this position

  • Ensure proper scheduling and assigning of customers to students

  • Support the business needs of Trans4m

 

General Duties

  • To be involved in the recruitment of students by undertaking promotional activities such as Open Days and Information Evenings

  • To contribute to the production of publicity materials for courses with which you are involved

  • To update yourself regularly in your specialist area and to complete CPD as required

  • To maintain up to date knowledge of Awarding Bodies and Organisations

  • Support and promote the centre’s equality and diversity, health and safety, smoking, safeguarding, and other policies, processes, arrangements and objectives

  • To carry out maintenance tasks within the centre

  • To support students to source suitable work placements and progression opportunities

  • To carry out external construction projects with suitably selected students

  • To undertake such reasonable duties and responsibilities as are commensurate with the level and responsibility of the job

Person Specification

 

Essential

A minimum of 2 years in the occupational area of brickwork, painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery

 

Qualifications

  • Level 2 or GCSE A-C in Math’s and English

  • Level 3 construction qualification

  • Assessor Qualification

 

Knowledge

  • Teaching of construction qualifications

  • Knowledge of safeguarding

 

Abilities

  • To deliver effective training sessions to groups, including preparation of learning resources suitable for a range of learning abilities from entry level to level 2

  • To work one-to-one and set challenging targets

  • Excellent communicator

  • To persuade and influence others and deal with conflict/challenging behaviour

  • To build rapport with target group and retain their attention during training sessions

  • To assess work and complete observations against standards and criteria

  • To work well under pressure

  • To work to targets and deadlines

  • Highly motivated

  • Level 3 Teaching qualification

 

Desirable

 

Experience

  • Of delivering training to vulnerable young people

  • Coaching and mentoring

  • Experience of assessing

  • Experience of the IQA process

  • Prior experience of delivering BTEC and City and Guilds qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Level 4 Teaching qualification

  • Level 3 Math’s and/or English

  • IQA qualification

Job Type: Permanent

 

Pay: Up to £32,000.00 per year

 

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

 

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Leicester: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

 

Education:

  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
