We require sessional Student Learning Support Workers to support our students in their learning across all departments.

The centre delivers programmes for students working towards a level 1 or 2 vocational qualification, alongside Maths and English, Employability and Personal Growth and Well-being, to enable them to progress into further training or employment.

 

Some of the students may have mild to moderate learning difficulties and some have an educational health care plan (EHCP) in place to support their learning needs.

 

Job Outline and Purpose

  • To provide learning support to student/s (16-24) with special educational need and disabilities (SEND)

  • To assist in the programme being a positive impact on the young person’s development, ensuring students engage and experience a differentiated learning programme to support their needs to enable them to achieve their goals

  • To provide Information, Advice and Guidance and to support participants to overcome and remove barriers to further education, employment or training

  • To support participants to progress into sustainable further education, employment or training

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • To provide a safe and welcoming environment to support learners within a group and on an individual basis

  • Assisting learners to develop basic life skills such as budgeting, shopping, cleaning, and personal hygiene to encourage independence and self-help skills

  • Helping to set rules and boundaries for the learner’s behaviour, ensuring clear instructions and shared strategies within the team

  • Liaise with parents / carers to share information and provide feedback

  • Liaise with tutors to ensure you are aware of the aims and objectives of sessions you are supporting learners

  • Monitor attendance and behaviour, completing regular reviews to record progress and highlight issues and challenges that may need addressing

  • Keeping accurate records and report paperwork, including daily logs of support and interventions, liaising with tutors to ensure shared communication and feedback

  • To manage students and their individual learning plans, closely monitor and review progress against plans ensuring strategies and resources are in place to help achieve outcomes

  • To participate in review meetings, preparing documentation where appropriate

  • To arrange and accompany learners on outings, visits, community, and recreational activities

  • Provide Information, Advice and Guidance signposting to alternative specialist agencies for further support where necessary

  • Support participants to overcome barriers to further education, employment or training and independent living

  • Support participants to research, apply and prepare for employment/training vacancies and opportunities

General Duties

  • Support and promote the Centre’s equality and diversity, health and safety, smoking, safeguarding, and other policies, processes, arrangements and objectives

  • To undertake such reasonable duties and responsibilities as are commensurate with the level and responsibility of the job

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Minimum level 2 or GCSE 9-4 in Math’s and English

  • Level 3 supporting teaching and learning

  • Level 2 safeguarding

Knowledge & Experience

  • Working with individuals who may experience emotional and behavioural difficulties

  • Supporting individuals with learning difficulties

  • Understanding of the SEND code of practice

  • Understanding of the EHCP review process

  • Competent in use of IT

  • To devise individual support plans

  • To support young people in an educational setting to retain their attention during sessions

This role profile is intended to provide a guide to the main duties and responsibilities involved in the post at the date it was drawn up.

Salary: £11.79 per hour
