The carpentry and woodwork department gives you the opportunity to practise the basic techniques used in carpentry and joinery and to use these techniques to construct wooden items. You will learn wood-jointing techniques - housing joints, tee halving joints, mortice & tenon joints and basic carpentry processes including plane sawn timber, fixing hinges, cutting mitres, fixing beading / moulding.
You will produce timber products using appropriate tools and equipment safely, the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices.
This course is open to any young person with an interest in working in this sector who is aged 16-19 (up to 24 with an EHCP). Enrolment on the course will be dependent on completing a four-week assessment based on your attitude, motivation and commitment to the course.
Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery
